MISUNDERSTOOD
The Hyena is a misunderstood animal. They are not the evil carrion creatures of myth. The females are known to fight to the death for their cubs and litter mates. They often mourn after the death of a cub, sometimes dying of a broken heart. This illustration was originally done in ink and pencil. Prints available in my shop.

THE WEDDING OF FRAU FOX
I did this piece for a group show with a Grimm Brothers Fairy tale theme. In preparing for the show, I stumbled on a fairy tale I had never read before, "Frau Fox." Basically, a widowed Fox will not marry until she finds another fox to mate with. I found it a fascinating look into the xenophobia and racism built into European culture. So, here is the the wedding portrait I envisioned. This illustration is colored pen and ink on a stained wood panel.
